Lesson objective: Apply understanding of fractions and division to solve real-world problems.

This lesson provides an opportunity for students to apply their knowledge and understanding of division and fractions to a real-life situation. Students are asked to make popcorn balls with a fractional serving size and find how many popcorn balls can be made from a full batch of popcorn.

Key Concept students will use:

- The meaning of measurement division problems is the same regardless of the numbers used.

Skills students will use:

- understanding dividing a whole number by a unit fraction (Grade 5, Unit 8)

Students engage in Mathematical Practice 7 (Look for and make use of structure) as they recognize the structure of non-unit fractions composed of unit fractions and apply their understanding of measurement division. Students are not expected to divide non-unit fractions in 5th grade but gain experience reasoning about it in this task.
