This lesson focuses on tracking the development of a claim by analyzing how significant events reveal the author's message. Students will work on inferring what the author wants his or her audience to believe about the topic, and how the author uses specific details to develop his or her claim. In this lesson, students will begin to focus on the big takeaway that the audience is crafting.
