This culminating task requires students to synthesize what they have learned during the close reading of "The Tell-Tale Heart." This task asks students to analyze and articulate how Poe creates suspense in this story while developing the central theme of the text through the use of word choice, characterization, and dramatic irony. Introduce the culminating task. Students will reread the text, adding any additional annotations as necessary. Students will then independently write a response to the culminating task. Students will refer to their notes from reading "The Tell-Tale Heart" as they create a response. Special Materials: Students should have access to the following materials for this lesson: * Student guided notes sheets from Days 1-4 * Copies of the anchor text for all students
