The purpose of Day 4’s lesson is to have students consider how the decisions an author makes regarding text format affects the overall meaning of the poem. Students will consider the impact of chronological order, poetic form, punctuation, and capitalization on the meaning of a poem. This will contribute to the student’s understanding of the meaning of the poem as he/she works towards the ultimate goal (Day Five) of discussing how two themes interact with and build upon one another.
