Students will be analyzing word choice for denotative and connotative meaning, as well as how text structure contributes to the development of the ideas. Students will reread the text with a partner or in a small group. They will answer the supporting text-dependent questions on the student notes sheet. Student responses can then be discussed as a class. Students should complete the focus question independently. Student responses to the supporting questions and the focus question should be collected and used as a formative assessment.
