This is the culminating writing task for the unit. The close reading strategies students have used all week will help them answer this question. In previous lessons, students were asked to identify Whitman's purpose for writing the text and explain his use of rhetorical devices throughout the text. The culminating writing task asks students to look at one type of rhetorical device, juxtaposition, and connect it to Whitman's purpose for writing the text. Special Materials: Each student should have a copy of text and the student notes sheets from previous lessons.
