Readers will analyze the text structure of the Preamble and the First Amendment to the United States Constitution and how it contributes to the development of ideas. While each piece of text is only one sentence long, the depth and meaning of each is great. Students will again listen to the text as a read aloud and then reread with a partner or in a small group. Students should work with their partners to answer the supporting text-dependent questions and discuss their responses as a class. Students should complete the focus question independently. Student responses to the focus question should be collected and used as an assessment. Special Materials: Student notes worksheet Copy of anchor text for each student
