Big Ideas:
Two- and three-dimensional objects can be described, classified, and analyzed by their attributes.
Points, rays, lines and line segments can be analyzed and classified based on their properties.
In this lesson, students will build upon grade 3 understanding that shapes share attributes and can be defined and categorized by their attributes. Students will be introduced to points, rays, lines and line segments by observing their characteristics and identifying them in various contexts and in familiar figures. This lesson will build the foundation for the understanding that when two rays share a common endpoint they form an angle and, ultimately, that angles can be measured.
Vocabulary: Point, line, line segment, ray
