This lesson focuses on analyzing how Poe's text structure (rhyme and repetition) contribute to the overall sense of mystery and suspense in the poem. The day begins with a rereading aloud of the poem. Students are then asked to read the specified stanzas of the poem independently prior to completing the text-dependent questions. Students may work in small groups or pairs as they return to the text to explore these questions, while capturing their thoughts on the student guided notes sheet. The focus question should be completed independently. Special Materials: Student guided notes sheet; copies of the anchor text for all students; Post-it notes (sticky notes); highlighters
