This lesson gives a basic entry point for students to unlock the meaning in this poem, laying the groundwork for the next four days of close reading instruction. Students read and summarize "The Echoing Green". By tracking what is described in the beginning, middle, and end of the poem, students will have a literal understanding of the text which will allow them to dig deeper in later lessons. The supporting questions build towards summarizing the poem by asking students to think about the characters and the setting of the poem, and what a Green is as Blake uses the word.
