Big Ideas: Two-dimensional figures can be categorized based on their attributes. Two-dimensional figures can fit into more than one category. This lesson builds on students' previous knowledge of geometric figures and their attributes. In the task, students are asked to sort quadrilaterals into groups (categories) based on their attributes. Then, within each category they sort the quadrilaterals into more specific sub-categories. This lesson builds towards creating hierarchies of quadrilaterals based on attributes. Vocabulary: attributes, congruent, right angles, perpendicular, parallel, quadrilateral, rectangle, rombus, parallelogram, trapezoid Special Materials: Task Sheet of shapes for students to cut and manipulate Scissors
