This lesson focuses on the interpretation of words and phrases, and how they contribute to the development of complex characters in the text. The day begins with a rereading read aloud of the text. Students are then asked to refer to certain words, phrases, and lines in order to identify how Shakespeare describes Macbeth and Lady Macbeth. Students may work in small groups or with a partner as they return to the text to explore these questions, capturing their thinking on their guided notes sheet. The focus question should be completed independently.
