Eric incubated LearnZillion at E.L. Haynes Public Charter School, in Washington D.C., where he was Chief Academic Officer and principal. While he was principal, E.L. Haynes posted three-year student achievement gains of 50 percentage points in math and 26 percentage points in reading. In each year the school was named a national Silver Award winning school through the federal Effective Practice grant program. Prior to leading E.L. Haynes, Eric founded a non-profit focused on teacher leadership development; was the Assistant Principal of St. Joseph’s School in Harlem, where he raised over $1 million dollars for technology and other programs; and taught for seven years in North Carolina, New York, and Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Eric holds a Bachelors of Arts in Public Policy from Princeton University, a Masters in Teaching from Brown University, and a Masters in Business Administration from Stanford University. Eric lives in Washington, D.C. with his wife and three children. Eric loves to throw and chase Frisbees, especially on the beach when there’s just a little bit of wind. His favorite teacher is Joe Kolman, his history teacher and cross country coach in high school.
Alix is a former public school teacher who taught middle school and high school math. Before founding LearnZillion, Alix was a consultant in McKinsey & Company’s Education Practice. His previous work experience also includes directing an after-school program in one of Boston’s public housing projects and working on public housing finance in New York. He currently serves on the boards of Capital City Public Charter School in Washington, DC and the non-profit organization GuideStar USA. Alix has a Masters in Education from the Stanford University School of Education and an MBA from Stanford’s Graduate School of Business. He graduated from Harvard University with an AB in physics. He lives in Washington, DC with his wife and two daughters. He is a proud product of New Haven Public Schools, and is grateful to his teacher, Jimmy-Lee Moore, for helping him think outside the box.
Ian is a husband and father, and serves LearnZillion as its CTO. He got hooked on starting web-based businesses in the mid 90’s and has worked as a skilled software engineer, leader, and company builder at places like LivingSocial, Lockheed Martin, and Razoo during his career. He has a passion for delivering value to customers by solving their biggest challenges and making their lives more enjoyable. Ian received a computer science degree from the University of Maryland and a Masters in Human Computer Interaction from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. His favorite teacher had such a profound impact on him that she is the answer to his account password recovery for several third-party services online, and he will never reveal her true identity.
As the Director of Academics, Posie helps teachers, instructional coaches, and administrators create powerful learning experiences. Posie originally joined LearnZillion as Academic Coordinator, back when the team was small enough to fit everyone in one tiny room. She now oversees LearnZillion’s professional learning communities, work that includes recruiting the amazing Dream Team and Dream Team coaches, planning TeachFest, and working with LearnZillion customers to implement one-of-a-kind Common Core professional development. Prior to joining LearnZillion, Posie was a third grade teacher. Posie holds a B.A. in Anthropology from Brown University and is a former Teach For America Corps Member. She lives in Washington, DC with her husband and an extremely spoiled cat, named Penny. Although he doesn’t know it, Mr. Conforto, Posie’s 6th grade social studies teacher, helped shape her love of geography, anthropology, and world foods with his “country of the day.”
Michael heads up Sales and Customer Success at Learnzillion. He brings more than twenty years of experience building and leading global sales and services organizations in the enterprise software and education technology markets. His extensive background working with early stage companies and emerging markets is complemented by his passion to build and scale high performance sales and services teams and relentless pursuit of maximizing customer satisfaction. Prior to joining the company in 2015, Michael was Vice President of WW Sales and Vice President of International at D2L Corporation. He previously held various executive and senior leadership roles at WebCT Inc, Media 100 Inc, and EMC Corporation.
